• Amazon: Keeley Compressor Pedal
• Pros: One of the greats – perfect for the studio.
• Cons: Pricey.
• Overall: When it comes compressors, you can’t really go wrong with a Keeley.
First, to avoid confusion, this is the 2-dial version of the popular and highly acclaimed Keeley Compressor. In fact, many stompbox devotees would rate this shiny little box firmly in their top ten pedals of all time.
And rightly so! Outwardly the Keeley Compressor might look very basic, but it does exactly what it’s supposed to do and it does it very, very well. That’s because the Keeley Compressor has been designed to the highest standards of quality in every respect. From the rugged exterior to the metal film resistors and capacitors to the hand matched transistors, this is a pedal that has been built to last and designed to perform.
Even at its most basic settings you can hear that this pedal exudes quality. Simply dial in 12 o’clock on both knobs and you’re off and running. Straightway, there’s depth, clarity and a warm, fat sound that inferior pedals simply can’t come near.
But where this stompbox really excels is in the studio. The lack of noise due to high quality components and the inclusion of the sensitivity control make it ideal for line-level inputs. There’s even an internal attack control for active basses. No wonder it has already won many awards. We fully expect it to continue to add to the trophy cabinet in the future.
